ONLINE INTENSIVE TRAINING

Our style of Zen training consists of daily zazen and periodic intensive training to boost your training and break habits. We hold online intensive training on Zoom.

ZAZENKAI

Zazenkai are 1-2 day intensive Zen trainings led by students, ~7-8 times per year. With zazenkai, a typical schedule focuses on 2-3 activities (e.g., zazen, martial arts), rotated in a cycle. To prepare, students should have received basic instruction on how to sit zazen and have been sitting online or on their own for at least a month. Students should be able to sit for 45 minutes at a time without moving and understand the basic principles of hara breathing.

KEISHIN

Four times per year, we hold 4- or 7-day intensive periods of Zen training called sesshin (接心), which literally means “to gather the heart-mind” in Japanese. We’ve taken some sesshin elements online through a training format we’re calling keishin (繋心 pronounced “kay-shin”) or “to connect the heart-mind.” A typical schedule includes zazen, martial arts, stretching, work periods, sanzen (interview with Zen Master), and teisho (lecture by Zen Master). We suggest students first do zazenkai to prepare for keishin. Students can choose a teacher for sanzen training after completing two keishin or one sesshin (in-person).
