We often think of time and energy as limited resources that we must budget and bank. But, you probably remember times that seemed to stretch on forever when you wanted them to end, or times that flew by when you wanted them to linger. You may also be able to recall occasions where you felt depleted, yet expended energy in a worthwhile way, and ended up feeling recharged again. How is it that time and energy seem to expand and contract? What if you had practices where “being time” could make time and spending energy could restore energy?
We invite you into an embodied and collective exploration of these questions in a 49-day practice period consisting of daily zazen (seated Zen meditation) and another additional activity of your choosing that makes your heart sing. The invitation is for you to experience for yourself whether carving out time for these activities in your busy schedule can give you increased energy, feelings of having more time in the day and being more satisfied. We’ll reinforce your commitment to practice with several talks by our Zen teachers on being time and tapping into energy through our physical Zen practice, including breathing, posture, and the senses. We’ll also host several small group discussions to share progress, barriers and inspiration with others in practice. You’ll come away from these 7 weeks restored by the fruits of your own practice and with mind-body insights into how to “be time,” access greater energy, and bring life to the world around you.
When is it? February 4-March 25, 2023. Download the schedule..
Who’s it for?
This training is for existing students, new students, and experienced meditation practitioners who are open to learning more about our style of Zen training and willing to make a commitment to recharging their practice during this period.
What’s Involved?
Make a commitment to practice that includes daily zazen (sitting meditation), at least 30 minutes/day, ideally joining us in the Chosei Zen Virtual Dojo.
Additionally, commit to any practice you’d like to engage in regularly (e.g., 30 minutes per day, twice per week) that would breathe freshness into this time (e.g., volunteering, exercising, cooking, creative pursuits, connecting with family/community, walking outside, other Zen training).
Optional: Attend biweekly talks and discussion groups led by one of our Zen teachers to further inspire or refine your practice. Talks will be recorded and available to participants who can’t make the original time.
Optional: Culminate the practice with Spring Keishin, an intensive training period, during March 23-26, 2023, which is open to people who have been sitting regularly. A 12-hour zazenkai will also be scheduled in February 2022, which is good practice for keishin.
