GEOFF KANTOU ASHTON
Geoff Kantou Ashton is an 86th-generation Zen master, a Zen priest, and the founder of a Zen training group in San Francisco. He began Zen training in 2004 at Chozen-Ji (Honolulu, Hawaii), where he learned the form of Mu-I Tai Chi from Kow Roshi. In 2020 he was ordained and received inka from Greene Roshi. He earned his Ph.D. in Asian Philosophy and is an Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco. As a scholar, Ashton Roshi reads Sanskrit, Thai, and Spanish, and has conducted research at universities in India, Thailand, Spain, and Poland. He has authored several publications on Asian philosophies, including a recent paper that relates to Zen training: “The Somaesthetics of Heaviness and Hara in Zen Buddhist Meditation.”
