HaraZen Workshop

We are pleased to announce HaraZen, a workshop that will take place at Daikozen-ji in Madison, WI on Saturday, January 27, 1-5pm. The instructors are Ken Kushner Roshi and Ellen McKenzie.

Hara development has tremendous value in contemporary society.  It’s related to improved health and physical strength and vitality, better ability to concentrate, remain present, and stay calm in all circumstances.  For students of Chosei Zen and the martial arts, haradevelopment remains essential and is a life-long process.

In this workshop, we’ll take a deep dive into the phenomenon of hara, how to develop it, and how to apply it to Zen training and daily life.  We’ll combine traditional methods of hara development inherited through our lineage of Zen and martial arts with techniques derived from contemporary bodywork and somatic practices.  The workshop will be relevant to a broad range of people, from those with no experience with Zen or martial arts to experienced students of these disciplines who want to deepen their experience of hara.
