Jiki/Level 1 Instructor Training, part 1 (online)

Chosei Zen Virtual Dojo is holding Level 1 Instructor Training on how to run a sitting group or be a jiki in the Virtual dojo or IZL programs. This is an annual training opportunity that can help hone your skills in leading Zen meditation and will utilize our recently updated instructor manual, which includes online adaptions for the jiki role.

Who is it for? Experienced practitioners interested in starting their own sitting groups or becoming a jiki for the Virtual Dojo or IZL programs, or current jikis who want to uplevel their skills. Students who have attended or are ready to attend sesshin/keishin and IZL students who have completed ZL3 are also eligible to attend. This is part of the required training for ZL Instructor certification.

What will you learn? We'll review all sections and resources associated with the Level 1 Instructor Manual, 2nd Edition, including:

  • How to set up a physical space for a sitting group or guide people in setting up their own spaces for online Zazen

  • The role of the jiki in person and online and best practices for being jiki

  • Exercises and practices for furthering students' training in Zen

When is it? This 2-part program will be held after morning Zazen on Saturday, Oct 1 and Oct 15, 7:30-9:30 AM CT.

What's Involved? Participants are expected to attend both parts and complete reading/viewing of the Instructor manual and materials before the 2nd session. This training is offered on a donation basis.

All training through Chosei Zen are donation-based and open to all regardless of ability to pay. All donations are very much appreciated and help keep our dojos running! You can donate here.
