Fresh Talks: Surangama Sutra

In this series, the teachers of Chosei Zen will bring to life through their own experience the important texts in our lineage. This month, Ginny Whitelaw Roshi will focus on Surangama Sutra.

Let’s delve into the sutra that shows how we get everything backwards, how that backwards thinking gets us stuck, and the best practices for flipping it around and seeing clearly (i.e., enlightenment). This is the sutra that inspired The Zen Leader. No pre-reading is required for this talk. But, if you want to better follow along or get a taste for why Whitelaw Roshi devoted years to this sutra, two readings are: The Surangama Sutra, Charles Luk translation and chapter 10 of the The Zen Leader.

These talks will occur on the 2nd Sunday of even-numbered months at 1-2:30 pm CT (8-9:30 pm CET). You can register here and use the same link to join this and future Fresh Talks.

Events through Chosei Zen are donation-based and open to all regardless of ability to pay. All donations are very much appreciated and help keep our dojos running. You can donate here.
